TikTok & small-business advertising

TikTok Ads for Small Businesses: Turn Attention into Enquiries

A good business can still struggle to get noticed. Could a useful short video and a carefully planned TikTok campaign help the right customers discover what you offer?

The quick takeaway

Start with a customer problem and a measurable next step

TikTok advertising is worth exploring when you can show something useful quickly and have a clear route from interest to an enquiry or purchase. A compelling video is a starting point; your offer, budget and follow-up still need to work together.

The problem: you have something useful to offer, but few people see it

You post about your business, share a link and wait. A few people watch, perhaps someone likes the video, but the enquiries you hoped for do not arrive. That can leave you wondering whether to make more content or try a different way of reaching people.

Before paying to reach a wider audience, I would ask two questions: does the content give someone a reason to care, and is the next step obvious? Advertising a vague message can make an existing problem more expensive.

A focused demonstration, useful answer or clear explanation gives you something stronger to test. TikTok for Business is one option for putting that content in front of a selected audience.

What is TikTok Ads Manager?

TikTok Ads Manager brings campaign creation, audience targeting, budgets and reporting into one advertising platform. Its official setup guide covers account registration, payment details, verification where requested, choosing an objective and adding your creative.

You can select targeting such as location, demographics and interests, and use daily or lifetime budgets. Optional Smart+ tools automate parts of campaign setup. Availability and controls should be checked in your account.

This link concerns business advertising: you are evaluating paid campaigns to promote your own offer. It is separate from earning commissions as a TikTok Shop creator.

Which small businesses should consider it?

My view is that the strongest starting point is something people can understand visually. A retailer might show a product solving an everyday frustration. A service business might answer the question a customer asks before booking. These are possible approaches, not promises of results.

  • You can show the benefit: The viewer can quickly see what changes or why the service matters.
  • You have a clear offer: The landing page explains what is available and who it is for.
  • You can fund a proper test: The account's budget requirements fit what you can afford.
  • You can respond: Someone can follow up on suitable enquiries promptly.

For a very small local audience or a limited budget, I would compare the targeting available with your actual service area before committing. If you cannot afford the test or have no clear destination for visitors, improve those foundations first.

How I would plan a first TikTok ad

Rather than trying to promote everything at once, choose one offer and one useful outcome. For a service business, that might be a completed enquiry. For an online shop, it might be a purchase of one clearly demonstrated product.

  1. Choose the problem. Write down the customer's question or frustration in plain language.
  2. Film the answer. Show a useful detail, demonstration or explanation, with readable captions.
  3. Make the next step clear. Tell people what they can find on the linked page.
  4. Check the destination on a phone. Make sure the page loads, explains the offer and has a usable form or checkout.
  5. Choose the matching campaign objective. Use the current options in Ads Manager and check the measurement needed for that outcome.
  6. Set a spending limit and review point. Decide what evidence would justify continuing before the campaign starts.

A simple video idea for a door-installation business

As a hypothetical example, open with: “Thinking of replacing your front door? Check these three things first.” Show the door style, a security feature and a practical installation detail, then invite viewers to request a quote through the linked page.

Keep the claims accurate and show work you have permission to use. The enquiry page should explain the areas covered and what happens after the form is submitted. This is a suggested storyboard, not evidence that this particular ad will generate leads.

Check the budget and any ad-credit offer carefully

TikTok's budget guidance, updated in July 2026, lists daily minimums exceeding US$50 at campaign level and US$20 at ad-group level. These are platform guidelines, not a suggested budget for every business. Confirm the applicable controls and amounts in your account and billing currency.

The partner landing page displayed an offer of up to US$6,000 in ad credits when checked for this article. That headline alone does not establish your eligibility or the amount you would receive. I have not verified a UK-specific entitlement or the qualifying spend for your account.

Before relying on an offer, check the country and new-account requirements, any required spending, activation steps, deadline and credit expiry in the current terms. Budget for your own cash expenditure. A credit promotion is a reason to read the details, not a reason to spend more than your business can afford.

Measure enquiries and sales, not just attention

A video can attract views without bringing useful customers. Decide how you will connect an ad click with the action you care about, and test that measurement before spending. TikTok provides reporting and website tracking tools; review the setup appropriate to your campaign.

For lead generation, my suggested scorecard is simple: how much did you spend, how many suitable enquiries arrived, how many received a response, and how many became customers?

For example, a hypothetical £150 test producing five suitable enquiries has a cost of £30 per suitable enquiry. Whether that is worthwhile depends on the value of the work and how many enquiries convert. These numbers illustrate the calculation; they are not expected TikTok results.

If viewers click but do not enquire, investigate the offer and page. If enquiries arrive from outside your service area, review the audience and wording. Change one meaningful element at a time so you can understand what helped.

My recommendation: test a clear message before scaling

I would shortlist TikTok for Business for a company that can demonstrate a useful offer, fund a measured test and follow up well. I would begin with a strong customer question, a focused video and a mobile-friendly destination.

The decision to continue should come from relevant enquiries, sales and cost. If that sounds like a sensible next step for your business, explore the platform and check the current signup terms through my link below.
